Over the last several days, low clouds have been the primary feature of the sky at sunrise. The breaks to be seen were far on the south, southeastern horizon. When sunlight passed through those breaks, it brightly lit the tall, barren trees of the neighborhood.

Less than five minutes later, it was all gray and dull again.
